I really like MySQL (yes, that won't win me any brownie points in my circle of friends) for its balance between power and simplicity, but I do miss a few things compared to other databases such as PostgreSQL. Some of them, such as subselects and stored procedures, have been introduced, but what I really miss is the "inet" data type. You can do most of its functionality with regular ints (well, unsigned ints), but it takes a lot more work. This little guide is here mainly for my own reference, but hopefully others will find it useful.

This weekend, I went to the Bay Area and hung out with crazyunlikeafox (Brian Danger Hicks), <secret identity concealed> (Emad El-Haraty), mrd (Mister D), and xkcd, of xkcd fame. (The other guys aren't famous.)
On Saturday, we went into SF, to Emad's office and played Rock Band with his co-workers. Rock Band is fun, except the drums kind of suck. Oh, and by willfully letting me ignore him, Mr. Danger-Hicks made me get a $60 parking ticket. Jerk. From there, we all (us plus Emad's co-workers) went to see Body Worlds 2 in San Jose. I saw dead people. Lots of dead people.
Sunday we wandered around Berkeley, and attended the 1-year anniversary of those tree-sitting hippies on campus. And I had bubble tea for the first time. And crepes the size of your head.
