I bought a TomTom One in Sacramento yesterday, on my way to the Bay Area. It works out of the box, so I used it on my way there and back. When I got back home, I attached it to the computer and discovered all data files were visible as a USB mass storage device. Including the splash screen.
Here's the original splash screen:

I made a much better one:

The BMP file is here, if you have a TomTom and want to use it yourself.

So, I went to Burning Man. I originally bought my ticket at the beginning of the year, but then sold it when it seemed inevitable that surgery recovery would interfere with my schedule. The woman who I sold it to was camping with our camp this year, and stopped by to pick it up the Sunday before the event started, rather than risk sending the ticket to her (she lives in Canada).
Mind you, at that point I was completely recovered, and back to work for 2 weeks. I thought about going, but I didn't have a ticket anymore, and very little vacation time left. After she picked up her ticket, I started to get the itch. On Tuesday, I talked to my manager and got Friday off, but I still didn't have a ticket and had a lot of work to do. But I made it happen. I got everything assembled and packed within 48 hours, which for me usually takes me at least 3 months. On Thursday at 5PM, after leaving work, I drove out to the playa. I got to the shack by 9PM, and was greeted with a "Welcome! We're going out for the night, join us." So I hit the ground running.
Mind you, I wasn't able to find a ticket on Craigslist before I left, so I had to buy a severely overpriced ticket at the gate. But even with only being there a half week, it was worth it.
Best Burning Man Ever.
I'll try to post some stories later (read: I won't), but here are some pics I found of Flickr of "Crude Awakening", a 100-foot-high oil derrick, that went up after the Man on Saturday. It put the Man to shame.
